Getting Started with Pro Engineer

By

Introduction to Pro E

Pro Engineer is a great tool to help you visualise your ideas and you can do this quite quickly once you get to know how to use it. The following is a short little introduction to what can be a beautiful relationship with Pro E.

You will need a mouse with a wheel button to use Pro Enginner.

Setting the Working Directory

The first thing which you must do before starting a Pro Engineer project is to set the working directory. Doing this will leave it much easier for you to find the files you need when it comes to the assembly.

New Part

The next step is to select a new file and set it up as you wish.

First Part

The first part shows you how to draw an object on a plane and then extrude it into a solid part. Then it shows you how to create a hole in the part to the size you wish. All of this takes very little time and all can be easily adjusted meaning you can design and redesign in no time at all.

Setting Units

Setting the units in a Pro Engineer drawing is very important and can easily be forgotten. It does'nt really cause trouble when you are creating a solid model but problems will arise if you create a part in milimeters and your team mate works in inchs or when you try to do a 1:1 scale drawing at the end of your design and your part is much bigger than the A4 sheet you wish to show it on.
